African Cities Archive respects your privacy. This page explains what personal data we collect when you contribute a photograph, and how it is used.

What we collect

When you submit a photograph, we ask for your name and email address, along with the photo's city, category, caption and desired licence. Your name is displayed publicly as the contributor credit, exactly as you provide it. Your email address is never published — it is used only to send you a confirmation once your photograph is reviewed, and is visible only to the editorial team.

Why we collect it

We use this information to credit your contribution, to review and moderate submissions before publication, and to let you know the outcome of that review.

Where your data is stored

All submissions are stored on servers located in Frankfurt, Germany (AWS, eu-central-1 region). Automated content screening (Amazon Rekognition) runs in the same region before a member of the team reviews your submission.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete the personal data associated with your submissions, including removing an already-published photograph. Contact us at the address below.
